New Sunderland Initiative - MAC (make a change)
MAC is Respect accredited and is being delivered by Impact Family Services forming part of the wraparound provision for the BIG domestic abuse perpetrator program.
MAC was developed through consultation with those enrolled on behavioural change programs and is grounded in an established base for safe and effective domestic abuse perpetrator work.
The aim of the project is to intervene with abusive behaviour at an earlier stage than is typical, before it becomes entrenched, and intervention is mandated by family court, criminal justice and or children’s social care processes. It is also designed to reduce the barriers that communities, professionals, and perpetrators face in seeking and accessing support as well as to raise awareness of domestic abuse more generally.
The Make a Change project has four main components:
- Direct work with people who are concerned about their behaviour towards their partner and/or ex-partner.
- Support for partners and ex partners of people referred to the project – this will be delivered by a separate service and who can offer confidential and independent support.
- Encouraging communities including family and friends to see themselves as part of the solution and empower them to take action to address domestic abuse. This is currently under development however we are in a position to offer advice
- Workforce development offering support, advice and training for services, organisations and employers who want to strengthen their response to domestic abuse.
