Designated Officer

The Designated Officer sits with Together for Children and ensures that all allegations or concerns about professionals or adults working or volunteering with children are recorded appropriately, monitored and progressed in a timely and confidential way. This is so children are protected from those that might harm them.

They:

  • Receive reports about allegations and oversee the management of individual cases; 

  • Provide advice and guidance to employers and voluntary organisations and agencies;

  • Liaise with the police and other agencies;

  • Monitor the progress of cases to ensure that they are dealt with as quickly as possible consistent with a thorough and fair process;

  • Maintain an information database in relation to all allegations and concerns;

  • Produce qualitative and quantitative management information reports;

  • Provide advice and guidance to employers in relation to making referrals to the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and regulatory bodies such as Ofsted, the GMC etc.
